Drifts of Graffiti in Granada is an exhibition that analyzes the evolution of graffiti as an artistic, social and community movement, deeply rooted in the urban history of the city. Beyond mural painting, graffiti is presented here as a collective practice based on networks of collaboration, shared identity and connection with public space.
Since its origins at the beginning of the 20th century, graffiti in Granada arises from groups of young people linked to street life, expanding progressively from the periphery to the urban center. In the late nineties, the city was consolidated as one of the main graffiti centers in Spain, driven by key figures such as El Niño de las Pinturas and EC13, who promoted meetings, independent publications and international connections.
During the 2000s, the Faculty of Fine Arts became a new creative focus, enriching and diversifying the local scene and reinforcing the dialogue between graffiti, contemporary art and new forms of artistic production.
The exhibition brings together artists from different generations who have had an essential role in the history of graffiti in Granada. Through a wide variety of styles, identities and approaches, the project shows how some practices evolve towards hybrid languages, while others maintain a faithful coherence to the original codes of graffiti.
With a total of forty works, Derivas del Graffiti in Granada offers a plural look at a living movement, in constant transformation, which continues to strengthen its roots more than thirty years later.
